Sulam Learning Academy – Spring Semester

Monday, June 17th - 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Congregation Sulam Yaakov
2111 Boston Post Road
Larchmont, NY

Two classes will be offered back-to-back each evening:

  • Jewish Wisdom through an Artistic Lens, taught by Amy Gottlieb at 7pm
  • Judaism and Anthropology: Uncovering the Hidden Forces of Religion, taught by Rabbi Dr. Alfredo Borodowski MSW at 8:10pm

All are welcome to come to one or both classes. Newcomers welcome to join at any time.

In Amy’s class we will focus on how art brings Torah to life in new ways. In the Spring Semester, Amy will transition from last semester’s exploration of poetry to begin studying music and visual arts that shed light on Jewish tradition. Along the way, we’ll discover insights and perspectives that reveal hidden aspects of the text, deepening our personal connection to Jewish teachings.

In Rabbi Borodowski’s class we will delve deeper into how religions are built around key concepts such as sacred and profane; ordinary and otherworldly time and space; and this world and the world to come. By understanding how these concepts interact with each other, we will uncover the forces that shape reality. Suddenly issues such as why Jerusalem is so important or why Yom Kippur became the central holiday will become clear. This course will provide you with the tools to decode any religious ritual or concept.

Refreshments will be served during the brief break between classes.
