President’s Newsletter – February

Dear Fellow Congregants,

Let me start by apologizing for the long delay in what I had always hoped would be a monthly newsletter.  The holidays were a hectic time, and there were many other messages with regard to CSY activities to keep you in the loop.

The establishment of Sulam Academy has been a raging success.  On average, we have about 20 people show up for each session.  Several members of other Congregations are also coming, and it has had the effect of elevating our profile in the Westchester Jewish Community.  We continue to meet on Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:00, and everyone is invited to attend.  It is not necessary for you to have attended previous classes in order to benefit from the weekly discussions.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Aaron Gelbart and Kathy Vega as our newest members.  Aaron is originally from Poughkeepsie, and Kathy was born and raised in Stamford.  Her parents immigrated from Santiago, Chile.  They are soon getting married, and Alfredo has been schooling Kathy on her conversion to Judaism.  Thanks to them, we have significantly lowered the average age of the Congregation!

I want to also thank Shelley Meltzer for her efforts in helping make the Kol Nidre appeal a success.  We have significantly increased participation and contributions over the past few years.  Although this is encouraging, we cannot rest on our laurels.  We are a long way from having a comfortable cash flow, and your continued support is needed and deeply appreciated.

Our next Kabbalat Shabbat will be February 22 at 7:00 PM.  Instead of a meal, there will be a light Kiddish after services, so you should make plans for dinner either before or after services.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Harvey Geller, President
